Tammy's Biography

This workshop will benefit those who want to get a basic understanding of how to use health and sex signs appropriately in either educational or medical settings.  The content of the workshop will focus on signs related to health and sex that are used on a daily basis among the Deaf community related to age and gender as well as sign parameters such as location, facial expressions, classifiers, and non-manual markers.  In addition, it will show you the results of a survey taken of what signs are actually used in Deaf residential schools & mainstream schools to show you if the students are really getting the accurate and fair education.  There will be a female and a male presenting this workshop to show you how respective genders sign the terms that are related to health and sex.  There will be a short activity involving role play in education & medical settings.  Please note that this workshop is intended to be a learning opportunity and to be taken seriously.  As some of the content is graphic in nature, we highly recommended that you come with an open mind.
