Developing Identity in K-12 Students

Dan Houlihan from WESP-DHH Outreach will share resources and strategies to support and nurture positive self identity for students with hearing loss.  Students ‘need’ to connect with others like themselves in order to develop greater positive self-esteem.  Activities in state and nationwide will be shared that support young people who are deaf and/or young people who are hard of hearing in connecting with others who are deaf or hard of hearing.  Self Advocacy is also an important skill for enhancing positive self identify.  Learn tips for teaching students “how to” self-advocate by knowing their legal rights.  Also, strategies for teaching students about social protocol for effective interaction with hearing people who do not know the needs and Rights of people who are deaf or hard of hearing will be shared.
