My Skill Level

It is important that you let us know where you feel your skills are at.  This is essential in planning space for our workshops and matching you with the appropriate Deaf Mentors.  Please look at these descriptions and indicate which one best describes you on your registration form.  The descriptions you see below may not exactly fit your skill level and you may feel like you are in between one level and another.  If that is the case, go up one level.  You can change you level at any time.  Email us at the address below if you have any further questions.

Novice:    I have taken at least two ASL classes but I am not an interpreter student.  I haven't had the opportunity to meet many Deaf or Hard of Hearing people since I have learned ASL. There are no workshops designed for Novice signers.  Workshops may be too advanced.

Beginner:    I am currently enrolled in an Interpreter Training / Preparation Program.  I have the opportunity to see Deaf or Hard of Hearing adults socially but only once in a while.  My ability to understand ASL is just developing.  Some parents of Deaf / Hard of Hearing children would fit will into this category.

Intermediate:    I have been in the field of interpreting for a few years or I have been learning ASL for several years now.  I socialize with Deaf and Hard of Hearing adults on occasion and can understand ASL somewhat.   Some parents of Deaf / Hard of Hearing children would fit well into this category as well.

Advanced:    I am a fluent user of ASL.   I have the opportunity to socialize with Deaf and Hard of Hearing adults often and use ASL in my work daily.  I am very strong receptively.   Members of ASLTA would fit into this category.  Some parents of Deaf / Hard of Hearing children may fit in this category as well.

Deaf:    I am Deaf or Hard of Hearing and am fluent in ASL or other forms of signed languages.
