Deaf Camp Counselors
A NEW STRUCTURE TO THE PREVIOUS DEAF MENTOR TIME
Over the past 8 years, ASL Weekend has been the only organization in the state to hire and pay trained Deaf ASL Mentors. Campers have raved about the experience they have enjoyed spending time with their Deaf Mentors and have asked us to continue providing them. At the same time, feedback has strongly supported the mentors be available at social times - not during workshops. With this support and feedback, we will be trying a new structure to our Deaf Mentor services. It is called Deaf Camp Counselors (DCC). These Camp Counselors will be available during Saturday meal times and after the entertainment on Saturday night. The time you spend with your DCC is up to you. They will be easily identified with brightly colored shirts so introduce yourself and let the conversations begin! Our DCC's will also be looking to chat with you so be prepared to engage in some rich ASL conversation. Ask questions. Share a little bit about yourself with them. Tell a few good jokes. Make the best of your time with them.
If you are someone who is Deaf and would like to be an DCC, please send an email through the contact form of this web site and someone will contact you right away. These are paid camp positions which include a free weekend.
