ASL Idol - an ASL Literature Competition

ASL Weekend's first ASL Literature Competition

Every year, ASL Weekend has hired professional entertainment to expose our campers to cultural ASL storytelling in its many forms.   Like other cultures, Deaf culture is rich with it's own literature such as poetry, ABC/number stories, handshape stories, folklore and many more.

To celebrate the beauty of ASL and Deaf Culture, ASL Weekend is proud to host it's first ASL Idol - an ASL Literature Competition.  ASL Weekend campers are invited to create their very own ASL Literature piece and perform it before 3 judges (our very own Simon, Paula and Randy) and our campers.  The judges will make comments regarding each of the performances while our campers make the final decision regarding who wins.  Cash prizes (provided by Professional Interpreting Enterprise) will be awarded to the top 3 performances.  Deaf and hearing campers are encouraged to compete however only 10 are allowed in the competition.  Only individuals registered for ASL Weekend can be in the competition.

Our host is better than Ryan Seacrest!  It is Wisconsin's own Dan Houlihan with special performances by the Madison Association of the Deaf's President and master storyteller Darrell Roby!  An introduction of the competition will take place Friday night and the actual competition will be Saturday night.  If you have any questions, use the contact form.
